Sportscaster Erin Andrews went through a decade of stress and discomfort on her fertility journey and eventually chose to work with a surrogate to make her dreams of growing her family come true. Now, she’s helping others who may not have the financial means for fertility treatments through the creation of a grant. She presented a $20,000 grant to a couple struggling with infertility on the TODAY show, to help make their IVF dreams a reality.

The couple, high school sweethearts Caitlin and Tyler Fairres, were afraid they wouldn’t be able to have a child after Caitlin was diagnosed with premature ovarian failure. Now they can have hope, and the opportunity to pursue IVF to potentially have a child. It’s difficult for so many individuals and couples who want to be parents but who don’t always have the kind of money required for the treatments they need.

Some insurers cover IVF or other options for infertility, but many do not. Even for those who have good coverage, there can still be a lot of additional expenses, as well. That’s why this grant is so valuable. It is creating an opportunity where there previously wasn’t any. The grant comes from an organization called Baby Quest, with financial support by Enfamil Enspire Optimum, where Andrews is a spokesperson.

Erin’s infertility journey began when she was diagnosed with cervical cancer in 2016. The recommendation was that she and her husband, retired NHL player, Jarret Stoll, freeze embryos. After two different surgeries, Andrews was free of cancer and decided to use IVF in case the cancer came back. There were a number of unsuccessful IVF rounds, after which they turned to a surrogate. Two embryos were also lost in that process.

Along her turbulent journey, she looked to NBC’s Kristen Welker to gain inspiration, as Welker had a child via surrogate and was very open about the struggles she and her husband had experienced. Together they worked with Baby Quest and Enfamil Enspire Optimum to create the “Mack Grant,” which could help potential parents cover the costs of the procedures needed to start or grow their families.
