Elon Musk has fathered several children who were conceived through IVF, but now that he’s taken the reins at Twitter he’s cutting fertility benefits for employees. Musk is the father of at least 10 children, and there may be more that haven’t come to light. Despite that, however, he seems to want to avoid allowing employees the same opportunities to explore IVF for their families.<\/span><\/p>\n

Last year, Musk frequently tweeted about how birth rates were declining, and he seemed to have a focus on producing as many children as possible. Now, the employees of Twitter have seen a lot of their IVF and adoption benefits removed as of January 2023. Employees could previously receive up to $80,000 in benefits, and that’s now been halved to $40,000.<\/span><\/p>\n

While that might still seem like a lot of money, the high costs of adoption and IVF can easily mean that employees will have to forgo having children because they can no longer afford assisted reproductive technologies or adoption fees they would have otherwise been able to pay.<\/span><\/p>\n

Many Twitter employees have also recently lost their jobs, as one of Musk’s first acts as the new owner was to fire a lot of the social media giant’s staff. Some of these employees had been in the process of IVF and had to stop before they had any success with the treatment, because their care was no longer covered.<\/span><\/p>\n

Naturally, many current and former Twitter employees are understandably upset about the policy changes. For some, this may mean their chance at starting or growing their families have been lost. Not only that, but they see their new boss fathering children seemingly, without a care in the world.<\/span><\/p>\n

Some employees believe this is a clear indication that Musk only sees the value in wealthy babies, not the children his employees would have. Whether this is the case, or whether this is simply a policy change or cost-cutting measure, it has caused significant grief and pain for would-be parents who must now wait or seek out other options.<\/span><\/p>\n
