People Magazine recently broke the news that musician and actor Lance Bass and his husband, Michael Turchin, are to become fathers later this year, to not one but two babies!<\/span><\/p>\n

Together for ten years and married since 2014, the couple has reportedly endured years of heartache with failed IVF treatments, unsuccessful surrogacy attempts, and a miscarriage. The men agreed to an exclusive interview with People, after learning that they will become Dads to boy\/girl twins in November.<\/span><\/p>\n

In the interview, Bass and Turchin shared that their journey involved nine different egg donors, ultimately starting over during the pandemic essentially from scratch working with a new agency, surrogate, and egg donor. They began again several months after dealing with heartache when their previous surrogate suffered a miscarriage while carrying twins. This time, when their surrogate became pregnant, the men were excited of course \u2013 but more cautious. When they reached the ninth week of their surrogate\u2019s pregnancy, they decided to share the news with their circle of family and close friends.<\/span><\/p>\n

When asked which of their sperm was used, they revealed that they each fertilized half of the eggs that were retrieved, and took the two healthiest embryos \u2013 hoping for boy\/girl twins because Michael is a fraternal twin himself.<\/span><\/p>\n

On navigating the surrogacy process as a gay couple, Bass said he feels it is important to be open and transparent in the process, to do more to normalize the journey and help other gay couples realize this is something they can do too, providing a blueprint of sorts for others to follow to start their own families.<\/span><\/p>\n
