One child is being granted US citizenship while the other is not.<\/p>\n<p>Each father was biologically related to one child, with Andrew\u2019s sperm having been used to fertilize one egg from an anonymous donor and Elad\u2019s sperm the other.<\/p>\n<p>It was a perfect plan that initially unfolded with little issue, with both men being listed on each child\u2019s birth certificate after their birth in Canada.<\/p>\n<p>However, that perfect plan unraveled when the couple wanted to relocate back to the United States from Canada. Andrew holds dual citizenship in Canada and the United States, and his husband, Elad, is an Israeli citizen.\u00a0 Andrew and Elad thought their children would become US citizens since both were already recognized as Andrew\u2019s legal children.<\/p>\n<p>Andrew didn\u2019t expect that U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services would ask for his twins\u2019 DNA test results.<\/p>\n<p>Andrew said to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pinknews.co.uk\/2017\/09\/20\/this-gay-couple-had-twins-but-only-one-of-them-has-us-citizenship\/\">Pink News<\/a>: \u201cI just can\u2019t stop thinking about how I\u2019m going to explain to him when he\u2019s older that he is different than his twin brother.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHis twin brother is American but he\u2019s a green card holder.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>They went public with their legal battle on CBS News to raise awareness of the discrimination of this law.<\/p>\n<p>He added that he was disappointed that his family was still being discriminated against in 2017.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s 2017 now. There\u2019s so many different types of families. Look at us.
